Deciding on a frame style to suit your artwork and home decor can be a difficult choice, especially when your framer has a really large range to view. This can be a little overwhelming after you have just selected your mat boards from a large range of colours and textures.
Making the right choice will be impacted by your personal style, and the age and technique
used in the artwork. Here is a guide to help you get it right.
WHAT'S YOUR STYLE?
Traditional frames are more shaped, they may be ornate, and have scalloped edges or filigree and patterns. Generally, these will suit older-style paintings like oils, watercolors, or more traditional art media techniques.
For a more modern look square finishes without patterns and with clean lines are a good place to start. Woodgrain or smooth frames coordinate well with modern mixed media artworks and photography.
There is always the option of mixing old with modern or utilising golds and metallic finishes to give a truly custom look. This will depend on your style, the artwork, and your interior.
MY ADVICE
Select the frame that best suits the artwork. Why?
Because more than likely you have chosen the artwork to suit your style and decor.
Selecting a framing combination that suits the artwork, not only will it enhance the artwork, it will suit your style and decor.
Simple hey!
